Andreas Tersenov graduated from the 8th High School of Heraklion in 2018. The same year he started his undergraduate studies in the Physics Department of the University of Crete. He graduated in 2022 and joined the Advanced Physics MSc program of the Department.

Career

During his undergraduate studies, he completed his senior thesis entitled “Cosmic-ray air-shower simulations across the ankle: Combining mixed Galactic composition with new physics above 50 TeV”, under the supervision of Prof. V. Pavlidou and PhD candidate Stylianos Romanopoulos. Since 2021, he is also working with Professor Elias Kiritsis on a project on “Holographic RG flows on deformed 3-sphere”.

During his undergraduate studies, he completed his senior thesis entitled "The energy spectrum of accretion discs in AGN" under the supervision of Prof. I. Papadakis. He is currently working on his master thesis, which extends the previous work to include relativistic effects in accretion discs.

Michalis Mastorakis graduated from the Neas Kydonias' high school that is located in Kato Daratsos, Chania in 2018. The same year he started his undergraduate studies in the Department of Physics of the University of Crete. He graduated in 2022 and joined the Advanced Physics MSc program of the Department.
 

Career

In September 2021 he started working on his senior thesis under the supervision of Professor Vasiliki Pavlidou and her graduate student Stelios Romanopoulos on Backtracking of ultra-high-energy cosmic-rays through the Galaxy’s magnetic field in order to determine their sources and their composition.

Cristina Maria Lofaro obtained her BSc in Astronomy at the “Università degli Studi di Padova” (Italy) in 2019. She obtained her MSc in Astrophysics and Cosmology at the same University in 2021.

Career

In 2019, she was an intern at the University of Cardiff and, in 2021, she won a scholarship “Scaling relations in nearby galaxies: the interplay of stars, dust and gas” at the Università degli Studi di Padova” (Italy). She joined the Department of Physics of the University of Crete and the Institute of Astrophysics (IA-FORTH) in November 2022 as a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Tanio Diaz Santos.

Nick Loudas graduated from the 2nd high school of Grevena with a grade of 19.5/20 (‘Excellent’) and from 2017 until 2018, he studied Civil Engineering at the Aristotle University Of Thessaloniki. Then, he joined the Physics department at the University of Crete and in 2022 obtained his BSc in Physics with high distinction. He is currently a MSc student under the supervision of Prof. V. Pavlidou and Prof. N. Kylafis.

Career

During his undergraduate studies he completed his senior thesis entitled "Relativistic QED versus classical magnetic resonant cross-sections" under the supervision of Prof. N. Kylafis and Prof. J. Truemper (MPE). Since 2019, he is a member of the Institute of Astrophysics currently working with Prof. N. Kylafis on a project related to cyclotron line formation in a radiative shock. In parallel, he studies the properties of various dark matter models, as well as their impact on structure formation and strong gravitational lensing under the supervision of Prof. V. Pavlidou, Prof. K. Tassis, and Dr. C. Casadio. Moreover, he is involved in the SMILE project focusing on theoretical calculations of the lensing probabilities.  In 2021, he was awarded a fellowship from the IA/FORTH and in 2022, he received the "ELISABETH KARAMINTZOU" award for his academic excellence.
