Career

In 2020 he started his undergraduate thesis in Astrophysics under the supervision of professor Andreas Zezas. The title of the thesis was "Galactic activity diagnostics based on WISE photometry Machine Learning Methods".

Katerina Papadaki
Education

Katerina Papadaki completed her BSc in Physics at the University of Crete in 2019 and continues her studies at the MSc programme Advanced Physics.

Career

The last year of her undergraduate studies she collaborated with the research group of Prof. George Tsironis, in the project of chaotic timeseries prediction using Recurrent Neural Networks. Her master’s thesis with title “Modeling of Speech Signals using Recurrent Neural Networks”, was completed under the supervision of Dr. Yannis Pantazis. Since December of 2020, she collaborates with Prof. Vasiliki Pavlidou for the analysis of optopolarimetric observations with statistical and Machine Learning tools.

Katia Gkimisi graduated from the 1st High School of Agia Paraskevi, Athens and entered the undergraduate program in the Department of Physics, University of Crete in 2016. She completed her BSc in 2020 and she continued to the MSc program of Advanced Physics.

Career

In 2018 she started a project on intrinsically polarized stars, under the supervision of professor Konstantinos Tassis. She then commenced her undergraduate thesis, entitled "Detecting artefacts in Robopol images using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks" in which, with the help of PhD candidate Rafael Skalidis, she  analyzed data taken outside the mask of the RoboPol instrument.

Career

In the third year of her undergraduate studies (2018), she started working on her diploma thesis, entitled "Classification of stars to normal and intrinsically polarized", under the supervision of Prof. Kostantinos Tassis. For her MSc project she is working on mid-infrared spectroscopy of luminous interacting galaxies under the supervision of Dr. Tanio Diaz Santos.

Giorgos Savathrakis graduated from the 3rd High School of Heraklion in 2016. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Department of Physics of the University of Crete and joined the MSc program in "Advanced Physics" in 2020. He is also a member of the Students' Astronomy Group of the University of Crete.

Career

He participated as a high school student in the Students' Astronomy and Space Science contest where he reached the third phase of the contest for two consecutive years (2015,2016).  His undergraduate thesis, under the supervision of Professor Andreas Zezas, was on X-ray binary population modelling.

Angelos Karakonstantakis  is currently preparing his MSc thesis, modeling AGN's variability in X-rays, under the supervision of Prof. Iossif Papadakis.

His research interests are in extragalactic astrophysics with main emphasis on active galactic nuclei.
