Education

Dimitrios Charalambidis obtained his Doctoral Degree in Physics (Dokt. Rar. Nat. 1988) from the Albert Ludwigs Universitat Freiburg (Germany) in 1987. His academic genealogy tree is here.

Career

From 1988-1991 he was as a Research Associate at FORTH/IESL. He joined the Univ. of Crete as an Assistant Professor in 1992 and became an Associate Professor in 1996 and Full Professor in 2004. He retired and was elected Emeritus Professor in 2020. From 1992 till 2024 was affiliated faculty member of IESL-FORTH and since 2020 he is Chief Scientific Advisor of ELI-ALPS. He joined IA-FORTH in 2024 to assist with his extensive experience in laser physics to the endeavours of Skinakas Observatory in the area of secure laser telecommunications with satellites.

AMO-Physics, Atoms in strong electromagnetic fields, Intense attosecond science and technology, Laser - surface interactions, Coherent XUV and X-ray sources, Coherent phenomena, Multi-XUV-photon processes, XUV-pump-XUV-probe spectroscopy.
