The power of interferometry: finding disks in evolved stars

The majority of planetary nebulae in our Galaxy exhibit intricate non-spherical morphologies like bipolar/multipolar nebular shapes, irregular features, jets, knots, dense waists and the list goes on. In the 15 years, many efforts have been made using infrared and submm interferometry, to detect the mechanisms that produce these morphologies, and their influence on the stellar ejecta, as early as during the AGB phase. We now think we understand how this is achieved. I will present a summary of my work on this topic on evolved stars from the AGB until the PN phase.
