Education

Efthymios Paleologou received his Bachelor's Degree in Physics from the University of Thessaloniki in 1976 and his PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA in 1983. His academic genealogy tree is here.

Career

He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1985- 1988). In 1988 he moved to the University of Crete where he accepted a research/teaching position until 1991. He has been a researcher at IESL/FORTH between 1991-1997 and at the Department of Physics from 1997-1999. In 2002 he was appointed to a permanent administrative position. He retired from the Univ. of Crete in 2020 but he continues to support Skinakas Observatory on a volunteer part-time basis.

Interests

Observational Astronomy (imaging and spectroscopy): Planetary Nebulae, Supernova Remnants. In situ instrument testing and characterization, telescope maintenance and software development for Skinakas Observatory.

Kougentakis

Education

Tasos Kougentakis obtained his BSc in Electronics from the Technological Educational Institute of Crete at Chania.

Career

From 1997 until 1999 he was working at “Poseidon Electronics Co” servicing and installing marine electronics and radio communications networks. In 1999 joined FORTH and the staff of Skinakas Observatory as an instrument technician and night assistant.

Interests

Design and development of electromechanical automata, optical systems, and electronic imaging devices for telescopes.
