The Institute of Astrophysics is excited to announce that Ms. Chryssi Koukouraki, a 4th year undergraduate student, who is already working on on a number of research projects under the supervision of Prof. Tassis, has been awarded the 2024 “George Grammatikakis” award.
The prize was established by the Department of Physics in memory of Emeritus Professor George Grammatikakis (1939-2013) who passed away on October 25, 2023. Prof. Grammatikakis had a deep love and interests in astronomy and he probably was most the influential popular science speaker and writer in modern Greece. It is awarded an undergraduate student of the Department of Physics, who has excelled academically in according to her/his academic and research performance especially in astronomy, after the completion of the 2nd or 3rd year of studies. The prize is accompanied by a commemorative diploma and a cash prize of 1000 Euro, and is awarded during the November swearing-in ceremony of the respective year.
The prize will be awarded to Ms. Koukouraki by the Vice Rector of the University of Crete, Prof. Melina Tamiolaki, during the graduation ceremony of the Department of Physics on Friday 22 November 2024 at 1pm.
