Kyritsis

Elias
Education

Elias Kyritsis obtained his BSc in Physics at the University of Crete in 2018 as well as his MSc in 2020 under the supervision of Prof. Zezas. He  commenced his PhD in astrophysics in 2020.

Career

During the summer of 2019 he attended a research program at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) of ESA in the Netherlands. He is working with Prof. Andreas Zezas in topics related to observational astrophysics and machine learning.

Interests

High-energy astrophysics; Observational Astrophysics; High-Mass X-Ray Binaries; Machine learning methods in astrophysics.

Tsouros

Alexandros Tsouros
Education

Alexandros Tsouros completed his BSc in Physics from the Univ. of Crete in 2019 as a valedictorian in his class. His undergraduate thesis was entitled "de Sitter versus Anti de Sitter flows and the (super) gravity landscape" and was performed under the supervision of Prof. E. Kiritsis. He then moved to Oxford University from where he was awarded an MSc in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics in June 2020.

Career

Alexandros Tsouros joined the Institute of Astrophysics as a PhD student in August 2020 to work under the supervision of Prof. V. Pavlidou. In 2021 he was awarded a fellowship from the Hellenic Foundation for Research & Innovation towards the completion of his thesis entitled "Reconstructing the Magnetic Field of the Milky Way via Astrophysical Techniques and Numerical Simulations", being ranked 1st in Greece in the field of Natural Sciences In 2024 he received the "Eleftherios N. Economou Doctoral Student Research Award” from the Department of Physics.

Interests

Theoretical astrophysics, studying the magnetic field of our Galaxy.

Stylianos Romanopoulos obtained his BSc in Physics at the University of Crete in 2017 as well as his MSc in High Energy Physics and Cosmology in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Th. Tomaras.

Career

Since December 2019, he is a Ph.D. student at the Dept. of Physics and the Institute of Astrophysics, under the supervision of Prof. V. Pavlidou.

Mandarakas

Education

Nikos Mandarakas obtained his BSc in Physics in 2018 and completed his Master studies in Advanced Physics with specialization in Astrophysics & Space Physics in 2019, both at the University of Crete. He is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. K. Tassis.

Career

He has been actively engaged with polarimetric observations at Skinakas observatory since the last year of his bachelor studies and has gained experience in relevant research, data acquisition and data analysis. For his PhD studies, he is part of the PASIPHAE survey, contributing to observations, analysis of the products and development of computational tools for the needs of the survey.
