The Institute of Astrophysics and the Dept. of Physics of the Univ. of Crete are pleased to share with the entire academic community of the University of Crete and FORTH the digitized archive of Basilis Xanthopoulos, past Professor and Chair of the Dept. of Physics, on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of his birth.
Basilis Xanthopoulos was born on April 8, 1951 in Drama and received his PhD from the University of Chicago (USA) in 1978. He served as a Professor of the Department of Physics and a collaborating faculty member of EKEK / FORTH since 1982, while he was Chair of the Department of Physics from 1987 until his untimely death on November 27, 1990. He was internationally known for his contributions in Theoretical Astrophysics and in General Theory of Relativity.

and includes notes, letters, research papers and photographic material from his life and work, as well as the impression he had made to his friends, students and collaborators.
