2025 "E. N. Economou Academic Excellence Award" to Myrto Falalaki

The Institute of Astrophysics is excited to announce that Ms. Myrto Falalaki  has received the Eleftherios N. Economou Academic Excellence  Award for the year 2025.

The award is given to a recent graduate, with the aim of recognizing the added value of the Department of Physics as a place where each new generation is educated on a solid foundation in physics. Ms. Falakaki graduated first in her class in July 2025 with a GPA 9.55 out of 10, and is currently an MSc student in Astrophysics at the Dept. of Physics of the University of the Crete and the Institute of Astrophysics FORTH.

The award were established in 2024 in honor of Lefteris Economou, the first chair of the Department and an internationally distinguished scientist, who played a decisive role in shaping the first critical steps of the University of Crete and the Department of Physics, and who contributed tirelessly to research and teaching for over 40 years in the Department of Physics.

The prize was awarded to Ms. Falalaki by Prof. Economou,  during a ceremony at the Department of Physics on Thursday 4 December 2025 at 5pm.
